Sound Files & Lyrics

Below you will find the 9 pieces: the audio, the lyrics, the historical story telling based on original sources.  Each and every piece was shaped in conversation between the artists and the Creative Director, Helen Weinstein.  Then the production team at Historyworks was able to be matchmaking the compositions with musicians and choirs, then organizing the venues for recording the pieces, with Jon Calver, the Technical Director at Historyworks leading the production work in consultation with the choir leaders and the composers for all to be in agreement on the the final mixes and edits for the pieces, for use on the app, website, film.

These compositions have been inspired by historical research led by Historyworks and undertaken by local people, research students and history groups into the hidden stories of Cambridge. You can check out how the history project for Cycle of Songs is developing by going to the Historyworks website here: http://historyworks.tv/news/2014/03/13/cycle-of-songs/

This page has provided participating choirs with the learning resources leading up to their recordings for the app.  It also provides the sound files and lyrics for the Primary Choirs, and the Cycle of Songs Pop-Up Choir. So you will often find the pieces in parts in addition to the final recording.  We are leaving these drafts for perpetuity, especially as more school choirs are learning the pieces during the Autumn and Winter of 2014 for concerts this year and for the Spring of 2015.  Hooray!
