CAMBRIDGE CYCLE OF SONGS - HIGHLIGHTS FUN FILM OF CAMBRIDGE LOCATIONS AND CHOIRS 

Do watch the Cambridge Cycle of Songs short film - Directed and Produced by Historyworks - it is a fun tour around Cambridge - providing an overview of the nine commisioned songs, the choirs and artists that recorded them, and the route the Tour de France took through the locations in central Cambridge - telling unique stories, written by top composers and poets, performed by people in Cambridge. THE DOWSING SOUND COLLECTIVE REHEARSAL AND RECORDING SESSION FOR  'REALITY CHECKPOINT - PARKER'S PIECE'

The Dowsing Sound Collective singers and musicians talk about why they enjoy singing, and specifically their experience of learning the new piece called "Reality Checkpoint" about the Parker's Piece in Cambridge and how it was named and has developed as a community space. The piece was written by composer Andrea Cockerton, commissioned by Helen Weinstein, the Creative Director and Producer for Cycle of Songs.  In the film you see Andrea at the keyboard as the choir rehearse the piece and then record for the album of Cycle of Songs which is available as a free app, and you can find the entire piece and the app here: www.cycleofsongs.org  To find out more about the history of Parker's Piece, do go to the historyworks website here: www.historyworks.tv

CAMBRIDGE CYCLE OF SONGS CHOIR REHEARSES AND PERFORMS

As a big thank you to all the singers from the community who joined us and made the Cycle of Songs ‘popup’ Choir so unique and successful, please find this short highlight’s film of your journey through the project from Historyworks www.historyworks.tv The film shows the rehearsal process led by the composers for the song, "Why We Ride", Kirsty Martin and Rowena Whitehead, and shows these dynamic choir leaders conducting the singers. The film was shot in the wonderful locations from our partners at Cycle of Songs, which are the Guildhall and Market area organized by Cambridge City Council, the Kettles Yard Art Gallery, Cambridge Junction, and the Music Faculty organized in collaboration with our partners at CAmEO (Cambridge University Music Outreach)

CAMBRIDGE CYCLE OF SONGS LAUNCH EVENT AT GREAT ST MARY'S CHURCH

On the 11th May 2014 the Cycle of Songs Project was launched at Great St Mary's Church, Cambridge, with a mix of community choirs, church choirs, musicians, dancers, and the public. This video is a compilation of footage captured on the day, mixed with footage of everybody at the launch singing a traditional South African song in Xhosa entitled 'Vela Vela' which contains lyrics that translate as 'Come let us see you. We are harmony.' This was taught to everybody on the day by Rowena Whitehead, Choral Leader for the Cycle of Songs project.

The Spinney Singers perform 'Hobson's Horses'

This video shows The Spinney Singers of The Spinney School, Cambridge, singing 'Hobson's Horses' outside Cambridge Junction on Wednesday 11th June 2014. The round called "Hobson's Horses" has lyrics written by Horrible Histories songwriter, Dave Cohen to the tune of Frere Jacques.   The Song called "Hooray for Hobson" was also learnt by the Spinney singers, which has words written by Dave Cohen and music composed by Karen Wimhurst for the Cycle of Songs project.  Both songs are based on the research led by the Creative Director and Producer, Helen Weinstein.  In this short film, captured by Historyworks, the Spinney Singers are singing outside the foyer of Cambridge Junction, with an introduction by the Cambridge Music Faculty's Outreach Officer, Tizzy Faller, with the filming by Henri Ward and the editing by Tiia Sahrakorpi, two of our fantastic production interns at Historyworks.

Cambridge News and Cycle of Songs visit the Children of Milton Road Primary School

On Tuesday 22nd July 2014 Helen Weinstein, the Creative Director and Producer for Cycle of Songs, organized a celebration of the achievements and their recordings for the app with Milton Road Primary School Choir Leaders, whose children in the choir have featured prominently in the project singing at Sing & Swim, the Fitzwilliam Museum Song Fest, and singing for the recordings of ‘Hooray for Hobson’ and ‘Build This House’ for the app.

To help capture this event and to amplify the filming and photography already taken by the team at Historyworks, was photographer from Cambridge News, David Johnson, invited by Cycle of Songs to join Helen today to photos and the following video for a press article about the children’s involvement with the project.

Cambridge Ten Sing perform for the Cycle of Songs Choir

On Wednesday 11th June 2014, Cambridge Ten Sing, an informal performing arts group run for and by young people, with adult co-ordinators, shared their musicianship and love of singing at the second Cycle of Songs rehearsal that took place at Cambridge Junction.
